Characterizing the rheology of lamellar gel networks with optical coherence tomography velocimetry

Lamellar gel networks based on mixtures of cetostearyl alcohol and a cationic surfactant, cetyl-trimethylammonium chloride, were studied using combination rheometry optical coherence tomography (OCT) velocimetry. Experiments conducted in stress-controlled rheometer with parallel plate geometry. Each formulation was found to exhibit yield stress thixotropy. The shear start-up behavior response constant directly observed OCT Close the stress, velocity had power law time after an initial period transience. At larger stresses, undergoes two successive increases scaling time. When sheared at low, constant, rates 1–5 s−1, fluids plug flow strong wall slip both plates. 10–150 separate into distinctive three band morphology while reduces. These rheological properties can be explained by multilamellar vesicle planar lamellae transition.
